You will be part of the conceptualization team and will be responsible for the design, build, and testing of the system. You will also be required to source parts internally and from suppliers, as well as develop technically written documents.
Specific Responsibilities include
* Work with internal resources and vendors to generate design concepts.
* Apply design fundamentals and formulate test plans to assess and validate the concepts.
* Develop working prototypes.
* Conduct troubleshooting and failure analysis.
* Write specifications and manage vendors
* Creating technical drawings using PRO-Engineer.
* Plan and execute collaborative scientific or engineering research generating new knowledge and innovative technology for application in materials, products, systems or processes.
* Collaborate with and/or lead internal/external global technical teams and execute technical assignments independently.
* Generate innovative ideas, suggest new project areas and establish technical plans.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and technical developments affecting areas of responsibility.
* Communicate results internally and externally through timely, high-quality presentations, reports and external publications.
* Develop corporate contacts and represent GM effectively to the external technical community.
* Thorough understanding of scientific principles and research methodology.
* Familiarity with appropriate analytical tools and experimental techniques.
* Generate innovative engineering ideas and conduct advanced development in the area of robotics design and validation as it pertains to vehicle body assembly.

* Develop working relationships with internal and external subject matter experts.
* Leverage expertise and contacts to improve project effectiveness.
* Effectively communicate and document results through internal documentations.
* Experience in experimental and advanced modeling & simulation techniques.
Qualifications
Basic Required Skills:
* US Citizen (Required)
* B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Top Tier University
* 3 to 10 years experience with designing mechanical systems for mini actuations devices or development of humanoid instruments (machine design, mechanical structures, and compact power devices).
* At least 2 years of experience with core elements of automation technologies: servo driven mini-actuation, articulation of mechanical devices.
* Working experience with robotics and the design of robotic systems.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design using Pro-Engineer.
* Working experience with various CAD design systems (Pro/Engineer, UG, Catia,..) as it pertains to the design of mini-actuation of mechanical systems and that require the integration of sensors, intelligent sensing systems (sensors, instrumentation, and controls), Mechatronics, robotics, dynamic systems and controls.
* Knowledge of computer languages such as C++, and other higher level environments such as Matlab (controls and signals processing), data acquisition and analysis software is a plus.
* Experience in designing and building dexterous devices for part grasping and manipulation during part assembly.
* Experience in force, torque and position sensor designs for measuring and tracking mini-actuator systems.
* Experience in programming and the control of robotic systems.
* Background in the fields of robotics or Mechatronics and in designing and developing novel mini actuation systems.
* Advanced training in theoretical and applied science/engineering.
* Interpersonal skills and communication methods to work effectively with GM internal and external customers.
