The Advanced Transmission Modeling and Analysis Engineer is responsible for predicting fuel economy and performance related to advanced transmission projects. Responsibilities will also include generating new analysis and modeling techniques as needed to simulate new powertrain technologies. Additional tasks involve vehicle and dynamometer testing to support model development and validation.

Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs

Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development

Performs complex design analysis
*
Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
*
Implements engineering changes
*
Initiates documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math data
*
Defines system requirements
*
Solves engineering related problems
*
Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs
*
Plans and implements test and/or development programs
*
Releases parts and subsystems for production
*
Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
*
Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing
*
Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
*
Travels as required
Qualifications
Basic Required
* Minimum 5 years modeling and/or analysis experience
* Experience in evaluating fuel economy, performance, durability, and/or driveability thru test and/or analysis
* Ability to develop new analysis methods and tools
* Knowledge of vehicle/powertrain systems and subsystems
* Ability to function effectively in a team environment
* BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent training
Basic Preferred
* Master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
* Experience/Proficient with Matlab/Simulink
* Experience with rapid prototyping (auto-code generation)
* Experience with AMESim (Adaptive Modeling Environment for Simulation), Unigraphics, and ETAS/Inca (Integrated Calibration and Acquisition System) software packages
* Experience in algorithm definition and development
* Experience with control theory and its applications
* Transmission operational knowledge
* Transmission experience in design, development, and/or control systems
* High level of oral and written communication skills
* Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
* Familiarity with production processes such as foundry, forging, pressed metal and machine tool activities
* High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
* High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
* Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
* Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
* Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
* Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
